EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern wraps up the nonconference portion of its schedule this week, hosting two teams at Lakeside Field. The ’Cats first welcome Western Michigan Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. and then take on Oakland in the nonconference finale Sunday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. Following this week, Northwestern begins the always-competitive Big Ten Conference schedule Friday, Sept. 20, at 13th-ranked Penn State.

    Back to Winning Ways
NU picked up its first win of the season Sunday vs. Dartmouth as the Wildcats hosted former coaches and players for Alumni Weekend. A pair of juniors scored second-half goals as Georgia Waddle tallied her first of the season while Katie Landgrebe kicked in an insurance goal to give NU the 2-0 victory. Landgrebe, who made her first career start against the Big Green, currently leads Northwestern with two goals this season. Senior Kate Allen assisted on both goals while freshman goalkeeper Jenna Hascher also received an assist on Landgrebe’s goal.

    Hand it to Hascher
Freshman goalkeeper Jenna Hascher picked up her first career victory and shutout in Sunday’s blanking of Dartmouth. Hascher has started the last three games in net for NU and has played a total of 365:17 minutes this year. Her 0.74 goals-against average is good enough for sixth in the Big Ten as she has only allowed three goals in five matches.

    Freshmen No More
There are eight Wildcat freshmen on the 2013 roster and all have played at least one game so far this season. Goalkeeper Jenna Hascher has started each of the last three games in net and has made five appearances overall. Addie Steiner has played all six games, starting three, Kourtney Scott has started each of her five matches played, Kaitlin Moore has played five matches, starting two, Maria Grygleski has played three matches, Mary Erikson made her debut at Valparaiso and first career start vs. Dartmouth, Rachel Zampa played at Notre Dame and Cami Pham made her Wildcat debut last Sunday vs. Dartmouth.

    High Percentage ’Cats
On Sunday vs. Dartmouth, Northwestern had just three shots in the second half, but converted two of those into goals in the 2-0 victory. A number of Wildcats have also shown accuracy in their limited number of shots so far this season. Katie Landgrebe has just five shots on the year, two of which were goals (.400 shot %), Georgia Waddle has had three shots, converting one into a goal (.333 shot %) and Julie Sierks has had four looks on the year, putting one past the keeper (.250 shot %).

    Climbing Up the Charts
With her two assists Sunday vs. Dartmouth, senior forward Kate Allen now has 44 career points, which moves her into a tie for ninth in NU history with Ashleigh Garmon (2001-04). Four more points would move her into a tie for seventh all-time. As NU’s leading goal-scorer in her first three seasons, Allen has 18 career goals, which ties for eighth on NU’s career list. Last year, she tallied a career-high seven goals and 17 points, which rank seventh and ninth, respectively, in single-season history.
