EVANSTON, Ill. -- After playing at a nearly unstoppable level in which she scored five goals and helped Northwestern to a pair of impressive victories, sophomore forward Addie Steiner was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.

Steiner's stellar stretch began on Wednesday, August 27 when the Wildcats hosted the UIC Flames in the home opener at Lakeside Field. The sophomore buried three goals in a span of only 14:15 during the first half of NU's dominant six-goal victory. It was Steiner's first collegiate hat trick and the first three-goal performance from any member of the Wildcats since the 2008 campaign. Steiner's five shots on goal against the Flames were more than the entire visiting team was able to get off during the match.

On Sunday, September 1, Steiner stayed hot as the 'Cats returned to the lakefront to host the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks. The Prairie Village, Kan., native opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 21st minute and later added what proved to be the game-winning goal about eight minutes into the second half. She scored on the only two shots she fired Sunday and Northwestern won the match, its third in a row, 3-1.

Steiner leads the Big Ten Conference outright in goal scoring and is currently tied for the lead in the entire NCAA. The forward has six scores to her credit through four matches. She is currently averaging 1.50 goals per game and 3.0 points per contest to lead the Big Ten.

Steiner is the first Northwestern player to claim Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors since Kate Allen did so on August 23, 2010.

Northwestern will be back in action on Friday, September 5 when it begins a two-match swing through the Show Me State. The 'Cats will tussle with the Missouri Tigers on Friday at 6:30 p.m. in Columbia, Mo., before visiting the Saint Louis Billikens on Sunday, September 7 at 1 p.m.

Following its four-game road trip, which also includes conference clashes at Nebraska and Iowa, the Wildcats return to Lakeside Field on Friday, September 19 to host the Purdue Boilermakers at 7 p.m.
