NU Trio Named to B1G Players to Watch List

    Aug. 13, 2014

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Three Wildcats received preseason honors on Wednesday with the unveiling of the Big Ten Players to Watch list. Senior defender Jackie Alyinovich and junior midfielders Niki Sebo along with Margo McGinty represented Northwestern on the list.

Now in her final year at Northwestern, Alyinovich has been a steady presence on the NU back line, playing all 57 matches the last three years, making 56 starts. The last two years, the Burr Ridge, Ill., native led the team in minutes and contributed to eight shutouts during that span. The two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar also appeared on last year's Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch list.

Sebo returns to the pitch at Lakeside Field after missing the entire 2013 season with an injury. She looks to return to form from her freshman and sophomore seasons where she was a key contributor in the Northwestern midfield. As a sophomore in 2012, the Downers Grove, Ill., native made 18 starts and was second on the team in scoring with five goals.

McGinty has been another solid presence in the Northwestern midfield the last two seasons and will be a junior on the 2014 squad. The Levittown, N.Y., native was recently named to the Preseason All-Big Ten team and has played 34 matches the last two years, making 30 starts. This is her third appearance on the Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch List.

Head coach Michael Moynihan and his Wildcats will get a tune-up before the 2014 season officially begins with an exhibition match Saturday against No. 16 Notre Dame. Kick is scheduled for 5 p.m. and admission is FREE into Lakeside Field.

Following the Notre Dame exhibition, Northwestern will focus on its 19-match regular-season schedule, which begins Friday, Aug. 22 on the road. Now in his third season at Northwestern, Moynihan returns 24 letterwinners and seven starters from a year ago.
