EVANSTON, Ill. - The Northwestern women's soccer program invites all former players, along with their friends and families, back to Evanston the weekend of Sept. 7-8 for Alumni Weekend. A number of events are planned throughout the weekend for NU women's soccer alumni, and the program will specifically recognize the 1998 team, which advanced to the third round of the NCAA tournament.
The weekend begins Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Northwestern football home-opener at Ryan Field vs. Syracuse. Members of the 1998 squad will be recognized during the game and all NU women's soccer alumni, along with friends and family, have the opportunity to purchase tickets for the game at a reduced rate. Alumni should reach out to assistant coach Shannon Neely (email@example.com / 847-467-4149) for ticket information.
The Wildcats will then welcome all alumni back to Lakeside Field on Sunday, Sept. 8, for the 1 p.m. match vs. Dartmouth. Complimentary tickets will be provided for alumni in attendance and there will be a special recognition at halftime. Alumni are also invited to stick around following the match for a tailgate at Lakeside Field and should RSVP with Neely.
This year marks the 20th season of the Northwestern women's soccer program, which began in 1994. The Wildcats reached the NCAA tournament just two seasons after the program began (1996) and again in 1998, winning two games in the tournament before a close match against eventual NCAA champion Florida in the third round. That team went 16-5-1, including a 6-3-0 mark in Big Ten action and this year marks the 15th anniversary of the 1998 squad's historic season.
