Vote for Colleen in The PEOPLE All-Star Teachers Contest

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Former women’s soccer player Colleen Antas (2007-10) is a finalist for The PEOPLE All-Star Teachers Contest and you can help her win a trip to the 2014 MLB All-Star Game! A teacher at Schurz High School in Chicago, Antas has translated her experience as an athlete and coach on the soccer field into a teaching career dedicated to turning the lives of challenged students.

Antas is very active in the Schurz High School community as she spearheaded the OneGoal program and works hard to create a positive, college-bound culture within the school, leading her students to graduate from college at radically higher rates than their peers. She is a special education and Spanish teacher at Schurz and also coaches the varsity girls’ soccer team. Additionally, Antas is the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports team lead and is the co-chair of Student Council, in charge of school blood drives, school dances and charity events.

Her career at Northwestern was just as impressive as she graduated magna cum laude, was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and earned the Big Ten Conference Sportsmanship Award. A three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, Antas graduated with a degree in Spanish along with human development and psychological services. She appeared in 42 games throughout her Northwestern women’s soccer career.

Antas is one of three finalists for the Chicago Cubs as each MLB team will have one teacher representative at the MLB All-Star Game at Target Field in Minnesota on July 15. The candidate with the most votes for his or her team will also be featured in PEOPLE Magazine.
