Feb. 2, 2012
EVANSTON, Ill. – First-year head coach Michael Moynihan and the Northwestern University women’s soccer program announced today (Feb. 2) that six individuals will join the Wildcats for the upcoming 2012 season.
The 2012 recruiting class spans the country and includes some of the top talent from Illinois, California, New York, Massachusetts and Michigan.
“This incoming class will join a new coaching staff during an exciting time for Northwestern soccer,” Moynihan said. “Together, with a motivated and determined group of returning players, we will lay the foundation for the future success of this program. I’m excited about this incoming group and I have to give a big thank you to current assistant coach Katie Shields, as well as the previous staff, for putting together such a strong class.
“This class has high levels of competitive experience, athleticism and an intense desire to succeed. This is a class with ambition. Upon speaking with them, I immediately noticed two things that were consistent among them; they simply love Northwestern University, and they are determined to see Northwestern women’s soccer win. I absolutely love the intensity that pours from this group. Several will undoubtedly become key contributors immediately and the class as whole will add important depth to our roster.
“Our goal is to move up quickly in the ranks of the Big Ten and establish Northwestern among the nation’s top teams. This class will help us on that path and I can’t wait to get started working with them.”
