Sept. 20, 2009
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Jennifer Baumann (Waukesha, Wis./Catholic Memorial) put a pair of shots on goal but the Northwestern women's soccer team was unable to score and fell, 2-0, at #14 Notre Dame Sunday.
Courtney Barg got the Fighting Irish (5-3-0) on the board in the sixth minute, scoring off a shot from 25 yards out that hit the crossbar and deflected in to the goal.
Baumann took a career-high five shots for the 'Cats (3-5-1) in the loss, including three in the first half. The junior put a shot on goal 40 seconds into the second half, but the ball was cleared off the line by Notre Dame's defense.
Four minutes later, Julie Scheidler scored for Notre Dame on a shot from deep in the corner to the far side. Lauren Fowlkes assisted on the goal.
Alicia Herczeg (Agoura Hills, Calif./Agoura) had a good chance to get NU on the board at the 52:18 mark, but Notre Dame's Kelsey Lysander was able to make the save.
Carolyn Edwards (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) made three saves in the match for Northwestern.
The 'Cats return home to Lakeside Field on Friday to open Big Ten Conference play. Northwestern will host Indiana in a 7:30 p.m. match that will follow the NU men's soccer team game against Drake.
