EVANSTON, Ill. - Caroline Dagley (San Rafael, Calif./The Branson School) scored her first goal of the season in the 55th minute to earn Northwestern a 1-1 draw with Missouri Sunday afternoon at Lakeside Field.
Dagley's goal came on the junior's only shot of the game and knotted the match at 1-1. After goalkeeper Carolyn Edwards (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) boomed a punt three-quarters of the way down the field, Missouri's backline struggled to clear the ball and Dagley took advantage, sending a rocket into the back of the net.
Kate Allen (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) took eight shots in the contest - four on goal - and was the only other Northwestern player to register a shot in the match. The freshman nearly won the game in the final second of double overtime. Allen curled around a defender at the top right corner of the box, creating enough space to fire off a shot that just missed the net wide as time expired.
Allen also had a pair of scoring chances in the final ten minutes of regulation, but both times Missouri goalkeeper Jessica Gwin was able to stop the threat.
The draw was the second of the season for Northwestern (2-2-2), which finished a stretch of five matches in ten days. The Wildcats have now played three double-overtime games on the year.
Missouri opened the scoring in the ninth minute of the match, when Kendra Collins sent a cross from the right end line to the center of the box for Alysha Bonnick, who beat Edwards to her right for her third goal of the season. Edwards had a season-high ten saves in the match for Northwestern.
The Wildcats return to action next Sunday, Sept. 12, when they host the Eastern Michigan Eagles at 1 p.m. Admission and parking are free for Northwestern women's soccer at Lakeside Field.
