EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern fell to Kentucky 2-1 in overtime Sunday at the Leonard B. Thomas Athletic Complex. Kentucky's Katie Fehey scored her second goal of the afternoon four minutes into the first overtime period for the game-winner. Junior Shannon Schneeman (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) tallied Northwestern's lone goal in the 43rd minute.

Much of the first half was contested in the middle of the field, with neither team able to sustain offensive pressure. Northwestern got on the board first when Schneeman found some space 25 yards away from the goal. She placed a shot into the top right corner of the net for the goal, her second in as many games. Schneeman's unassisted goal would be the only of the half and the teams went into the break with Northwestern leading 1-0.

Kentucky put pressure on the 'Cats at the start of the second half and made the score 1-1 on a goal by Katie Fehey in the 51st minute. Both teams had chances to break the tie, but regulation ended with the score still 1-1. Kentucky scored the game-winner in the 94th minute when Fehey took a rebound off the hands of goalkeeper Lauren Johnston (Denver, Colo./Denver East) and put it into the net for the goal.

"The momentum chanaged a couple of times and we didn't handle that well," head coach Stephanie Erickson said. "Kentucky is very experienced in overtime and they knew what they wanted to do."

The 'Cats continue their homestand at 3 p.m. on Friday when they take on the Missouri Tigers.
