EVANSTON, Ill. -- After more than a week of training for the 2014 season, Northwestern took to the pitch at Lakeside Field on Saturday night and tied Notre Dame 2-2 in an exhibition match. Facing a Fighting Irish squad that advanced to the third round of last year's NCAA Tournament and is ranked No. 16 in the NSCAA preseason poll, the Wildcats received a solid preseason test to prepare for the upcoming 19-game regular-season slate.

To begin competition, Northwestern burst out of the gate with two first half goals. Sophomore Addie Steiner buried one in the bottom left corner in the 16th minute. Twenty minutes later in the 36th, senior Sami Schrakamp beat the goalie to the ball to make a long, arcing volley that dropped into the back of the net. Northwestern led 2-0 over the Irish at halftime.

In the second half, Notre Dame's senior Lauren Bohaboy gave the Irish their first goal with a hard shot into the right corner in the 15th minute. The Northwestern defense came up big throughout the half with several great saves, but freshman Kaitlin Klawunder found the Irish's equalizer in the 87th minute to even the score. As time expired, both teams made last minute attempts for a game-winner, but the match ultimately ended with a 2-2 tie.

Northwestern has a challenging regular-season schedule facing five teams that appear in the NSCAA preseason poll and an expanded conference schedule with the addition of Maryland and Rutgers. The season officially kicks off on Friday, Aug. 22, when Northwestern faces Fairleigh Dickenson in the Marquette Invitational.

Lakeside Field is then officially open for the 2014 season on Wednesday, Aug. 27 for NU's home opener against UIC. Kick is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. against the Flames. That match is one of nine home contests at Lakeside Field as NU also hosts Miami (Ohio), Purdue, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State and Minnesota.

Season tickets are on sale now for the 2014 women's soccer season and they are available for the low cost of $49. Youth seats can be purchased for just $29 and Northwestern also offers a family plan, which admits two children and three youths at a total cost of $99. Women's soccer season ticket holders will receive a limited edition Northwestern Soccer scarf and an invitation to an exclusive event. Northwestern's home schedule features nine matches at Lakeside Field, including a visit from 2013 NCAA Tournament team Indiana on Sept. 21. The match against the Hoosiers will be part of the team's alumni weekend as the team celebrates 20 years of Northwestern women's soccer (1994-2014). The team will host a "Coach's Corner" before every home game this season, where season ticket holders will meet with the staff and discuss the game plan for the upcoming contest.
