EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern Lacrosse took center-stage in front of a packed house at Ryan Field this weekend, with members of NU's 2012 NCAA championship-winning team receiving their national championship rings at halftime of Northwestern Football's victory over Iowa Saturday.

The ceremony marked the latest achievement of the women's lacrosse juggernaut built by head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller, which has captured seven of the last eight NCAA championships. Last spring, the Wildcats finished the season with a 21-2 record and defeated Syracuse, 8-6, in the 2012 national title game at Stony Brook University on Long Island.

    NU Lax Receives Championship Rings
The celebration coincided with Northwestern University's annual Homecoming festivities, allowing five of the six members of NU's highly accomplished 2012 senior class to return to Evanston and receive their championship rings with their teammates.

The ceremony was just one highlight from a full weekend of excitement for the Northwestern Lacrosse family, which on Friday evening staged its annual Alumni Game at Lakeside Field where a team of more than 25 former Wildcats took on the current squad in a friendly game. Following Saturday's on-field recognition, the group held its team banquet Sunday to honor the achievements of last year's team one final time before focusing its attention squarely on the upcoming 2013 season.
