IWLCA Coach of the Year Awards -- Complete Release

EVANSTON Ill. -- For the fourth time in five years and the fifth time overall, Northwestern head coach Kelly Amonte Hiller is the recipient of the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) National Coach of the Year award, the organization announced Monday (Oct. 1). Amonte Hiller previously garnered the honor in 2005, 2008, 2009 and 2011.

Under Amonte Hiller's guidance, the 'Cats (21-2) played in their NCAA-record tying eighth straight national title game and brought home their seventh championship in those eight years. Along the way, Amonte Hiller became the winningest coach in NCAA Tournament history with 32 career tournament victories compared to just two losses.

The 2012 Wildcats recorded 11 wins over opponents ranked in the top-10 and owned a 5-1 mark in games decided by two goals or fewer. Northwestern ranked second nationally in scoring defense (7.48 GAA) and held all four of their NCAA Tournament opponents to seven goals or fewer.

As has been a hallmark of her time at Northwestern, Amonte Hiller's teams continued to improve throughout the year and peaked in the postseason. After losing the draw control battle to Florida, 18-5, in the ALC Championship game, Amonte Hiller's Wildcats went on to win the draw in their ensuing four NCAA Tournament games by an average margin of 13.0-5.8

In addition, Amonte Hiller mentored junior defender Taylor Thornton, the 2012 Lacrosse Honda Sports Award winner, WomensLax.com Player of the Year, Tewaaraton Award finalist and American Lacrosse Conference Player of the Year.

Now entering her 12th season leading the Wildcats, the five-time IWLCA National Coach of the Year honoree has complied an overall record of 196-30 -- including a 168-9 mark since the beginning of her first championship season in 2005 -- and an 83-2 ledger at Lakeside Field dating to 2004.
