    U.S. Lacrosse -- Official Release

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Danielle Spencer, the former All-American attacker at Northwestern and current Wildcats assistant coach, was added Wednesday to the U.S. women's lacrosse national senior team. Spencer joins Sarah Albrecht (2006), Katrina Dowd (2010), Lindsey Munday (2006) and Shannon Smith (2012) on the U.S. team that will compete at the 2013 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Cup in Ontario.

Spencer, a former three-time NCAA champion at Northwestern (2007-09), has been a member of the U.S. women's national team since 2010. The two-time All-American finished her career ranked second all-time in school history with 203 draw controls and sixth all-time with 193 goals. Spencer collected 100 draw controls in 2010, which set a Northwestern single-season record and third in NCAA history. A native of Brighton, N.Y., Spencer returned to NU as an assistant coach under Kelly Amonte Hiller during the offseason.

"We're excited to welcome back Danielle to the team at full strength," U.S. women's national team coach Ricky Fried said. "Her athleticism and ability to use her strength to get to the goal make her a great asset for us."

Before heading to the FIL World Cup next summer, the 38-player U.S. squad will compete at a series of training tournaments, beginning with the U.S. Lacrosse Stars and Stripes event, Oct. 3-7, in Palo Alto, Calif.
