    Northwestern Leads ALC with 23 Academic Honor Roll Performers
    123 total student-athletes recognized by conference

    EVANSTON, Ill. -- In addition to reaching the pinnacle of their sport on the field, Northwestern's 2012 NCAA championship-winning women's lacrosse team also garnered high marks in the classroom. The American Lacrosse Conference (ALC) announced the members of the 2012 ALC Academic Honor Roll Thursday, recognizing 23 Wildcats for their academic accomplishments over the past year.

    Northwestern's 23 honorees were tied with Vanderbilt for the highest team total in the conference. In all, 123 ALC student-athletes received the accolade, given to individuals who maintained a grade point average of 3.0 or better for the 2011-12 academic year.

    Included in NU's list of academic honorees is junior defender Taylor Thornton, the American Lacrosse Conference's Player of the Year as well as the Honda Sports Award winner in women's lacrosse. Other Wildcats who received ALC All-Conference honors as well as Academic Honor Roll laurels include seniors Shannon Smith, Lacey Vigmostad and Alex Frank as well as junior Erin Fitzgerald. All six Northwestern seniors were named to the Honor Roll while leading the 'Cats to the national championship.

     

     

    Northwestern's 2011-12 freshman class also performed admirably in their first year on campus, with six newcomers achieving Academic Honor Roll accolades from the ALC.
