EVANSTON, Ill. -- The three-time national champion Northwestern lacrosse team has been nominated for an ESPY award in the category of "Best Collegiate Women's Team." Fans will vote for the winners in 38 categories, and the awards show airs July 15 from Hollywood's Kodak Theatre.

Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James, who is nominated for three ESPY Awards, will co-host the event with ABC late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel.

The Wildcats were arguably the most dominant team in college sports this season, going 21-1 on their way to an unprecedented third-straight national title in only the program's sixth year back as varsity team. They became just the second team in NCAA Division I women's lacrosse history to win three in a row.

Northwestern had a record eight players take home All-America honors this season as the Wildcats set NCAA single-season records with 529 points, 361 goals, 168 assists and a 16.4 goals-per game average.

This is the second time Northwestern has been nominated for an ESPY. Former football coach Gary Barnett won an ESPY Award for "Best Coach" in 1996 after leading the Wildcats to a Big Ten championship and the Rose Bowl.
