EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's Kristen Kjellman has once again been named a finalist for the NCAA Honda Award, honoring the top collegiate female student-athlete. She is one of four women's lacrosse finalists.
The winner, after nationwide balloting, will become a candidate for The Honda-Broderick Cup, awarded annually to the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year.
Kjellman has won the Honda Award for lacrosse the past two years and is one of the most recognizable names in the game today. Kjellman was the winner of the 2006 Tewaaraton Trophy as the top female player in the nation after helping the Wildcats become the first team in school history to win back-to-back NCAA Championships.
A three-time All-America choice and a two-time first team selection, she leads the nation's top scoring team this year with 62 goals to compliment 23 assists (85 points) and ranks among the national leaders with 72 draw controls. She was recently named the American Lacrosse Conference's (ALC) Player of the Year for the third-straight season and was a first-team all-conference choice for the fourth year in a row.
In addition to the honor of this selection, American Honda will donate $1,000 to the women's athletic fund of each nominee's university. The winner's program will receive $5,000.
