EVANSTON, Ill.--The defending national champion and No. 1-ranked Northwestern Wildcats (16-1) were tabbed as the No. 4 seed in this year's 2006 Division I NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship. NU will face the Stanford Cardinal (12-5) in the first round at 2 p.m. CT Sunday, May 14 at the Lakeside Field in Evanston. Ticket prices are $7 for adults and $5 for college students (with I.D.), seniors and children under 18. Duke grabbed the No. 1-seed, followed by second-seeded Virginia and third-seeded Georgetown. The Cardinal and the Wildcats will be meeting for the second time this year as Northwestern defeated Stanford 19-8 back on March 25 in Palo Alto, Calif. Win and the Wildcats will face the winner of fifth-seeded North Carolina (12-5) and Maryland (12-7) May 20 in Evanston. The Wildcats defeated both the Tar Heels and Terrapins this year, 18-10 and 13-8, respectively. This is NU's third-straight year playing in the NCAA Championship. Last year, the Wildcats received the ALC's automatic bid en route to the national title and a perfect 21-0 mark. Overall, this is the Wildcats' eighth NCAA bid, receiving five during the first era of lacrosse, from 1982-92. The Wildcats started the 2006 season on a tear, winning their first 10 games before their 31-game win streak was snapped with a 16-10 loss at Duke on April 7. Since then, the revitalized 'Cats have won six in a row, three in a row against ranked opponents, and have outscored the opposition 103-47, a difference of 10 goals per game. They defeated two top-10 teams in UNC and Johns Hopkins 18-10 and 17-5, respectively, in the span of three days. Northwestern features the most potent and balanced offensive attack in the country. They lead the nation in scoring (16.5 goals per game), scoring margin (+8.4), draw controls (15.8) and win percentage (.941) and are seventh with only 8.13 goals allowed per game. Six Northwestern players have recorded 25 goals or more on the year. Both first round and quaterfinal matchups will take place at host institution of the higher seeded team May 14 and 20. The remaining four teams will square off in the finals May 26 and 28 at Nickerson Stadium in Boston, Mass. Teams Receiving Automatic Qualification:
