    2013 IWLCA All-Region Teams

EVANSTON, Ill. -- After compiling a 17-2 record and earning the No. 2 seed in the 2013 NCAA Championship, Northwestern landed five players on the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-West/Midwest Region teams, the IWLCA announced on Tuesday.

Four 'Cats -- seniors Erin Fitzgerald, Gabriella Flibotte and Taylor Thornton as well as sophomore goalkeeper Bridget Bianco -- garnered first-team All-Region honors while junior Alyssa Leonard was named to the second team.

Thornton earned her fourth straight first-team All-Region accolade while Fitzgerald received her second straight first-team honor and the third overall of her career. Leonard makes her second career appearance on the IWLCA second-team All-Region squad while Flibotte and Bianco each were recognized for the first times in their respective careers.

The 128 honorees across four geographical regions are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-America teams, which will be announced on May 17. The IWLCA will honor 2013 class of All-Americas at the IWLCA All-America banquet on May 25, in King of Prussia, Pa.

Northwestern begins its quest for an eighth NCAA championship in nine years when it faces either Notre Dame or Stanford in a second-round matchup at 1 p.m. CT Sunday at Lakeside Field.
