EVANSTON, Ill. -- Senior Hannah Nielsen (Adelaide, Australia/Brighton Secondary) has been named the Nike/Inside Lacrosse Player of the Week, as well as the American Lacrosse Conference Offensive Player of the Week, after tallying five goals and adding five assists in the Wildcat victories over No. 4 Duke and California this past weekend. Nielsen became the NCAA's all-time career assist leader, surpassing Jen Adams' in the win over the Blue Devils Friday night. It is the second time in her career Nielsen has garnered the award. It also marks the fourth-straight week she has earned Offensive Player of the Week honors from the conference.

Nielsen's record-setting assist seemed to turn the tide against Duke, as the subsequent goal from senior Meredith Frank (Westwood, Mass./Westwood) tied the game at three late in the first half, and Nielsen would add another assist and notch a goal of her own in helping NU to a 13-7 victory. She followed it up with four goals and three assists in the 21-4 rout of California the following night.

Nielsen became the undisputed assist queen in women's lacrosse, as she also holds the single game record (10 vs. Duquesne on Feb. 17) and is tied for the single-season assist mark (69 in 2007). Through the first 12 games of this year, she leads the nation in points (82) and assists (42), as Nielsen continues to set her sights on repeating as the Tewaaraton Trophy winner.

She and the rest of the Wildcats return to action this Sunday, April 12, welcoming 17th-ranked Penn State to Lakeside Field for a noon draw. Northwestern took a pair of meetings against the Nittany Lions, most recently a 15-7 win in the American Lacrosse Conference semifinals.
