BALTIMORE, Md. - Playing in front of a large crowd at prestigious Homewood Field, the No. 1-ranked Northwestern women's lacrosse team took a little while to get going Friday night against No. 11 Johns Hopkins.

After falling behind 3-2 in the first half, however, the Wildcats scored the game's final 10 goals -- three before halftime, seven after the break -- to earn a 12-3 victory over the Blue Jays.

NU improves to 15-0, 4-0 in the ALC. The Wildcats can clinch at least a share of the conference title for the second year in a row with a win next Sunday at Vanderbilt.

After a Johns Hopkins goal got things started, Sarah Albrecht scored the first of her team-leading four goals with a free-position shot, and then Kristen Kjellman put NU up 2-1 with her first of the night.

Hopkins came back with a pair of goals to take a 3-2 advantage, but the Wildcats did not allow another Blue Jay tally after that in getting the win.

Kjellman knotted things one final time with her second of the night, and then Aly Josephs scored her only goal to put NU up for good. Laura Glassanos closed out the first-half scoring with a free-position goal.

In the second half, Glassanos and Albrecht got NU on the board with free-position shots, then went the conventional route to make the score 9-3. Lindsay Finocchiaro and Kate Darmody sandwiched their only goals of the night around Albrecht's fourth tally for the final margin.

Kjellman and Lindsey Munday had assists in the game, as well.

NU's defense was again outstanding, holding Tewaaraton Trophy finalist Mary Key in check (just one goal) and allowing JHU only 13 shots.
