BALTIMORE -- Tewaaraton Trophy winner Kristen Kjellman scored five goals and Hannah Nielsen added four as No. 1 Northwestern defeated No. 13 Johns Hopkins 12-5 Friday night at Homewood Field in Baltimore.

The win moves Northwestern to 12-1 and 3-0 in the ALC, clinching at least a share of its fourth-straight ALC title. The Wildcats can win the conference outright with a win over Ohio State next Friday in Evanston. Hopkins falls to 8-6 and 1-2 in the conference.

Kjellman has come up big in the last two games for NU, recording three goals in the win over No. 2 Maryland on Monday before notching five more today.

JHU's Mary Key, the NCAA leader in goals and points coming in, was held in check by the Wildcat defense and was never a factor. She managed just one goal and an assist after averaging more than 7.0 points per game coming in.

Despite winning only three of the 11 draw controls in the first half, Northwestern held a 6-4 lead at halftime. And even though Hopkins won the first seven draw controls of the game, Morgan Lathrop kept the game close with five first half saves and 11 total for the game.

It was the Nielsen and Kjellman show in the first 30 minutes as each player tallied three goals. Kjellman opened the game with two-straight, one coming off an assist from Hilary Bowen and the other from Nielsen. But Hopkins answered with two-straight goals of its own off the sticks of Sam Schrum and Key.

NU then countered with another two goals from Kjellman and Nielsen before JHU's Lauren Schwarzmann cut the lead back to one with a goal just over 15 minutes in.

Nielsen put Northwestern back up 6-3 with goals at 10:16 and 6:48 until Schwarzmann took advantage of a free-position opportunity to make it a two-point Northwestern lead at halftime.

Northwestern then seized control of the game after halftime, scoring the first three goals of the half -- two more from Kjellman and one from Nielsen -- to take a 9-4 lead with 15:28 left in the game.

From that point Northwestern cruised. Alex Nolan scored the lone goal of the half for Johns Hopkins with 9:43 left to make it 9-5, but Bowen got loose for two late goals and freshman Danielle Spencer closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal of her own.

The Wildcats are back in action Monday at home against Rutgers. Game time is 3 p.m. CT.

Game Notes: Northwestern has now won 12-straight games ... Meredith Frank failed to record a point for the first time in her young career, snapping a 33-game point streak ... Northwestern has now won 14-straight conference games and is 19-1 in ALC play since 2004 ... Kjellman (221 career goals) is now seven goals shy of tying the school's all-time goals record of 228 ... Northwestern is now 5-2 all-time against Hopkins and have won the last four meetings ... The Wildcats are 53-2 in the last two-plus seasons and 65-4 in their last 69 games.
