EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head coach Emily Fletcher announced today the signing of arguably the best recruiting class in program history. Sarah Cho (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) and Hannah Kim (Chula Vista, Calif./Otay Ranch) have signed Letters of Intent to compete for the Wildcats beginning in the fall of 2014. Junior Golf Scoreboard ranks both future Wildcats in the top 10 as Cho is tabbed No. 4 while Kim is ranked No. 9.
"I am thrilled to have Hannah and Sarah joining our Wildcat Golf Family," Fletcher said. "We knew throughout the recruiting process that securing these two players would have a tremendous impact on our program so this is a big day for us and we could not be more pleased!"
Cho is one of the highest-ranked players to sign with Northwestern as she is ranked fourth nationally and first in the state of California in her 2014 class by Junior Golf Scoreboard. She is currently pursuing her second state high school title in three years, after claiming the top spot in 2011. Sarah has had a very accomplished junior career, notching two AJGA victories and amassing seven top-five finishes. In 2012, she posted a third-place finish at the highly competitive Callaway Junior World event as well. She also was high school teammates with current Northwestern freshman Minjia Luo.
"Sarah's results are impressive and speak for themselves, but what you don't see on paper is her tremendous work ethic, demeanor and passion to continually improve and learn," Fletcher added. "This is a player that will leave her mark on our program over the next four years and today marks the beginning of that era."
Kim, currently ranked No. 9 nationally and third in the state of California in her class by Junior Golf Scoreboard, comes to Evanston from Chula Vista, Calif. In 2012, Hannah notched a third-place finish at the Callaway Junior World and posted a fifth-place finish at the esteemed Silver Belle Championship.
"Hannah's passion and enthusiasm for all things Northwestern have been evident from the outset," Fletcher said. "She is a great fit academically and athletically and I am confident that Hannah will be a key figure in continuing to take our program to an elite level."
Cho and Kim join a Wildcat women's golf program that is on the rise after winning its first Big Ten Championship a year ago. A number of players from last year's championship team are back for the Wildcats this year and will return for the 2014-15 campaign when the pair of incoming freshmen join Fletcher's squad.
"These are exciting times for our program," said Fletcher, who was awarded Big Ten Coach of the Year in 2013. "You can feel the energy and desire amongst our team to continually improve and accomplish all that they are capable of achieving."
