EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern heads west for its final tournament of the fall season, competing at the Stanford Intercollegiate. Competition runs from Friday, Oct. 25-Sunday, Oct. 27 with 18 holes being played each day on the Stanford Golf Course. The tournament is hosted by Condoleezza Rice, the Thomas and Barbara Stephenson Senior Fellow on Public Policy at Stanford’s Hoover Institution.
Another competitive field awaits the Wildcats, who come in at No. 20 in the latest Golfstat.com rankings. The 16-team field includes 12 teams ranked within the top 40, with the nation’s No. 1 and No. 2 ranked teams featured in the field. The top-40 teams in the field are: No. 1 UCLA, No. 2 USC, No. 9 Stanford, No. 11 Vanderbilt, No. 12 Pepperdine, No. 19 Washington, No. 20 Northwestern, No. 21 Kentucky, No. 24 Auburn, No. 32 California, No. 33 Oregon and No. 38 UC Davis. The field also includes the tournament’s individual champion from each of the last two years as Kyung Kim of USC (2012 medalist) and SooBin Kim from Washington (2011 medalist) are set to be part of this year’s field.
Head coach Emily Fletcher has utilized a consistent lineup throughout the fall season as junior Hana Lee, sophomores Kaitlin Park, Suchaya Tangkamolprasert and Elizabeth Szokol, along with freshman Kacie Komoto, will once again start for the Wildcats. Senior Devon Brown, a California native, will compete as an individual.
Northwestern has been off of competition since hosting the 2013 Windy City Collegiate Classic, Sept. 30-Oct. 1. The Wildcats fared well against a highly-competitive field, finishing fifth amongst the 15 squads. Tangkamolprasert led the Wildcats with her ninth-place finish, which matched the best placement in her young Wildcat career.
Northwestern looks to close out the fall portion of its schedule on a high note. The squad has placed in the top five in each of the previous three tournaments, finishing fourth at the season-opening Mary Fossum Invitational, fourth at the Dick McGuire Invitational and fifth at the Windy City.
