    2012-13 Northwestern Women's Golf Season Stats Get Acrobat Reader

    EVANSTON, Ill. – After two top-five finishes to open the 2012-13 season, Northwestern looks for another strong showing at this weekend’s Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships, played at the Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn. The Wildcats are one of 16 teams in this year’s field and are playing in the tournament hosted by Tennessee for the first time since 2006.
    NU tees off the first round Friday at 9:40 a.m. CT on hole No. 10. The second and third rounds will begin at 8 a.m. CT on Saturday and Sunday with tee times off the first and 10th holes.
    Northwestern was idle from competition last week but currently ranks 10th in the latest Women’s Rankings. NU has two top-five finishes under its belt, including a third-place showing at its own Windy City Collegiate Classic, played at the Glen View Club from Oct. 1-2 and fifth at the Dick McGuire Invitational. The Wildcats vaulted from a tie for sixth into third place thanks to top-10 finishes by sophomores Nicole Zhang (T-4th) and Hana Lee (T-10th).
    Lee currently leads Northwestern in scoring average at 73.00 through six rounds. She has two top-10 finishes, after tying for sixth at the season-opening Dick McGuire Invitational. Zhang led NU for the first time this season with her fourth-place finish at the Windy City as she shot an even-216, including two rounds with a 2-under 70.
    NU has been steady to open the season, shooting under 300 in all six rounds. Head coach Emily Fletcher has used four consistent starters and two different freshmen to fill in at the fifth spot during the first two tournaments. NU’s starting lineup has been Lee, Zhang, senior Lauren Weaver and junior Devon Brown while freshmen Suchaya Tangkamolprasert and Kaitlin Park started the first and second tournaments, respectively, for the Wildcats.
    This year’s field at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championships includes five teams ranked in the top-35 by and NU is the highest-ranked team in the field. The 10th-ranked ’Cats are joined by No. 14 Iowa State, No. 23 Texas A&M, No. 27 Tennessee and No. 31 Penn State. Six teams in the field are ranked by Golfweek and they include No. 16 Purdue, No. 18 Northwestern, No. 19 Iowa State, No. 25 Texas A&M, No. 29 Tennessee and No. 37 Penn State.
