This year’s field features five teams ranked in Golfweek’s preseason top-30, including No. 5 Arizona, No. 17 Oklahoma State (the 2011 Windy City Collegiate Classic team champions), No. 26 Ohio State, No. 27 Texas Tech and No. 29 Northwestern. The Wildcats and Buckeyes are joined by Wisconsin as the three Big Ten teams at the tournament.

The Wildcats have one tournament under their belts after opening the 2012-13 campaign on Sept. 17-18 at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. Led by senior Lauren Weaver’s (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) third-place finish, the ’Cats took fifth out of 17 teams and were just seven strokes off of tying for first place. Sophomore Hana Lee (Hacienda Heights, Calif./Wilson) also got out to a good start, scoring a career-low 219 to post the second top-10 finish of her career, tying for sixth.

NU used a mix of returnees and newcomers in its starting five at the Dick McGuire Invitational. Weaver, Lee and junior Devon Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) returned to the starting lineup after playing in every tournament during the 2011-12 season and were joined by sophomore newcomer Nicole Zhang (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll) and freshman Suchaya Tangkamolprasert (Bangkok, Thailand/Bromsgrove International School). Freshman Kaitlin Park (Tustin, Calif./Beckman) played as an individual in the season-opener and tied for 25th in her Wildcat debut.

Northwestern tied for sixth out of 16 teams at last year’s Windy City Collegiate Classic as two Wildcats finished in the top 20. Brown led NU in a tie for 11th while Weaver finished 20th. The 2011 edition of the tournament had an exciting finish as three strokes separated the top three teams with Oklahoma State claiming the team title.
