EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern continues its fall season this weekend, traveling to Albuquerque, N.M., to play in the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational that runs from Friday, Sept. 14-Saturday, Sept. 15. The Wildcats are one of 16 teams in this year’s field as the tournament begins with 36 holes on Friday and the final 18 will be played on Saturday at the UNM Championship Course.
Last weekend, NU opened up the 2013-14 campaign at the Mary Fossum Invitational, taking fourth out of 15 teams. Sophomore Kaitlin Park led the squad, tying for second, which was the best placement of her young Wildcat career.
A year ago, Northwestern opened its season at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational and took fifth in the 17-team field. Then-senior Lauren Weaver led the group with her third-place finish while Hana Lee tied for sixth.
Head coach Emily Fletcher will utilize the same lineup at this weekend’s tournament as the season-opener with Lee, sophomores Kaitlin Park, Suchaya Tangkamolprasert, Elizabeth Szokol and freshman Kacie Komoto set to compete. The one change for this weekend is freshman Minjia Luo is scheduled to make her Wildcat debut, playing as an individual. Luo had an impressive week in practice as she scored a hole in one, the fifth of her career.

Following this weekend, Northwestern turns its attention to hosting the 2013 Windy City Collegiate Classic, Monday, Sept. 30-Tuesday, Oct. 1. This year’s tournament will be played at the Northmoor Country Club in Highland Park, Ill., and features a competitive field with seven teams that advanced to the 2013 NCAA Championships. That group includes the defending NCAA Champions, USC.
