Complete Results from Singha Chiangmai Open
CHIANG MAI, Thailand – Northwestern rising sophomore Suchaya Tangkamolprasert returned to her home country of Thailand this summer and recently won the Singha Chiangmai Open (Aug. 8-10) by two strokes. The Bangkok native finished the 54-hole tournament, played at the Mae Jo Golf Club & Resort, at 2-under 211, finishing two strokes ahead of Satarak Walailak, who was an even 213.
Tangkamolprasert was one of five amateurs competing in the field. She started the tournament strong with four birdies and 13 pars to card a 3-under 68 on the par-71 course during the first round. She maintained her tournament lead during day two, shooting a 1-over 72 and then separated herself from the field during the final round, finishing at an even 71. Tangkamolprasert closed the third round, going 2-under on the back nine with two birdies and seven pars.
During her first season with the Wildcats, Tangkamolprasert helped the team win its first Big Ten title in program history and achieve a top-15 finish at the 2013 NCAA Championships. She played in 10 of the 12 events last year and came on strong at the end of the year, leading Northwestern in three of the final four tournaments, including the 2013 NCAA Championships. Tangkamolprasert finished her freshman campaign with a 76.07 scoring average to rank third on the team, had a top-10 finish at the Lady Buckeye Invitational, and had three top-20 showings.
