CLEVELAND – Northwestern sophomore Nicole Zhang (Calgary, Alberta/Bishop Carroll) won three of her final five holes in Friday’s quarterfinal round of the 112th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship to earn a berth in the semifinals.

After defeating the No. 1 seed in yesterday’s round of 32, Zhang met Su-Hyun Oh of Australia in Friday’s quarterfinal match. Oh maintained a 1-up or 2-up lead until the 12th hole where Zhang put things at all-square, scoring a birdie on the par-4, 384-yard 13th hole.

Zhang birdied again on the 14th to go 1-up, rolling her tee shot on the par 3 within 10 feet of the hole. She then split pars with Oh on 15 and went 2-up with a birdie on 16. The Wildcat golfer then closed out the match on the 17th hole, matching an Oh birdie to win, 2 and 1.
