    2012-13 Women’s Golf Schedule

EVANSTON, Ill. – Eight regular-season tournaments, including Northwestern’s own Windy City Collegiate Classic, highlight the 2012-13 women’s golf schedule announced today by head coach Emily Fletcher.

NU heads to the desert to open the 2012-13 season, playing at the Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., Sept. 17-18.

A busy month of October begins at home, Oct. 1-2, when NU hosts the fifth annual Windy City Collegiate Classic. This year’s tournament returns to the par-72, 6,333-yard Glen View Club in Golf, Ill.

NU heads to Knoxville, Tenn., for the Mercedes Benz Women’s Championship on Oct. 12-14 and then wraps up the fall at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C., from Oct. 26-28.

Northwestern opens the spring season in Rio Mar, Puerto Rico playing at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. Hosted by Purdue, this year’s tournament runs from Feb. 10-12.

NU is off for the remainder of February and will play its annual Alumni Match Saturday, March 2, in Jupiter, Fla. Former Wildcat golfers Luke Donald and Eric Gleacher headline the list of alumni that join the Wildcats for the annual match.

Northwestern returns to competition March 8-10 at the Clover Cup in Mesa, Ariz., followed by The Farms Invitational over spring break (March 31-April 2) in San Diego, Calif.

NU gets one final regular-season tune-up playing at the Lady Buckeye Invitational April 20-21 in Columbus, Ohio.

The 2012 Big Ten Championships will once again be played at a neutral site in French Lick, Ind., April 26-28. NCAA Regional action takes place May 9-11 and the 2012 NCAA Championships in Athens, Ga., run from May 21-24.

Northwestern returns four starters from the 2011-12 squad that made its third straight NCAA Regional appearance and 10th overall. The ’Cats also welcome a talented group of four newcomers that includes sophomore transfer Nicole Zhang and three incoming freshmen (Kaitlin Park, Elizabeth Szokol and Suchaya Tangkamolprasert).

The NU newcomers have had a very productive summer heading into their first season of competition with the Wildcats. Zhang is currently into the quarterfinal round at the 112th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship after defeating the No. 1 seed in the round of 32.

Park won the AJGA Junior Challenge in Beaumont, Calif., at the end of July. She finished with an 11-under 205, winning the tournament by four strokes. Park posted three top-25 finishes for the 2012 season and won her fourth career AJGA event.

Szokol captured her first Illinois State Women’s Amateur title in June. She won medalist honors in the qualifier, shooting a 2-over 72 to earn the top seed for match play. In the finals of match play, Szokol defeated Michelle Mayer, who is a sophomore at Illinois, 4 and 3.

Tangkamolprasert played in the Singha Challenge #3/2012 at Royal Hills Golf Resort and Spa in Thailand. A professional event, she finished tied for third with rounds of 73-70 and won the low amateur competition by six strokes.
