EVANSTON, Ill. -- Before the Northwestern women's golf team heads out onto the course for one final time this season at the 2014 NCAA Championships, get to know the Wildcats that will be playing in the finals.
Up first, is two-time First Team All-Big Ten honoree, junior Hana Lee. The Hacienda Heights, Calif., native currently leads the team in scoring average at 74.06, which currently ranks as the top single-season stroke average in program history, and has four top-10 finishes this year, including medalist honors at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic.:
How would you describe this year's NU women's golf team?
"I would describe this year's NU women's golf team as a family. We are all very comfortable with each other, and since we had a lot of returning players this year it did not take too much time to get to know each other."
What does it mean to you to play in the 2014 NCAA Championships?
"I think it's a great accomplishment as a team, especially to do it back-to-back years. We are playing the top teams in the country and I think we have definitely reached that level as a team and as a golf program."
What has been your favorite golf-related memory of the 2013-14 season so far?
"My favorite golf-related memory was when we won the Liz Murphy Collegiate Classic this year, because we played amazing as a team and I had my first medalist honors as an individual."
What has been your favorite off the course memory with the team during your NU career?
"Other than meeting a few famous people (like Michael Jordan and Channing Tatum) we really enjoy getting all you can eat (AYCE) sushi together as a team!"
What is your favorite part about being a member of the Northwestern women's golf team?
"I would have to say the golf courses we play and have access to is one of my favorite parts about being on the Northwestern women's golf team. But I would have to say that a close second would be the food we eat when we are traveling... It is amazing!"
What is your favorite spot on campus and why?
"My favorite spot on campus would be our indoor practice facility in Patten Gym. It's a really neat spot to chill, watch TV, improve my golf game, and even take a nap! We have a pretty amazing lounge area."
What is your favorite place to visit in the city of Chicago or Evanston and why?
"I would say going to Downtown Chicago is always an adventure for me. It's a beautiful city and my goal is really go there more often and explore more of it."
What is the best piece of advice you have received from either head coach Emily Fletcher or assistant coach Beth Miller?
"There are just so many! Our coaches are really there to give us input with their past experiences as college players themselves and with previous players they've dealt with in the past so the amount of advice they give is endless. We also have an awesome Director of Golf (Pat Goss / David Inglis) who is very involved in our program and he provides great insight for our team as well. Beth always provides me with some daily nuggets (short inspirational quotes) that really gets me through the day, which is something we sometimes joke about but in all honesty I take them to heart."
My favorite professional golfer is...
"It would be Luke Donald hands down, but recently I've been intrigued by Jordan Spieth, because what he is doing is truly amazing at such a young age. The way he presents himself in front of the media and his interviews are truly well-handled."
If I could play 18 holes with anyone it would be...
"Ellen DeGeneres because she is hilarious and an inspirational public figure."
Northwestern is heading to the NCAA Championships for the third time in program history and second time in as many seasons. The 72-hole tournament begins Tuesday, May 20 in Tulsa and runs through Friday, May 23. The Wildcats will look to improve upon their top-15 finish a year ago and return four players from last year's squad that advanced to the NCAA Championships.
