EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern heads north to Madison, Wis., for the final tournament of the 2009-10 regular season, competing in the 2010 Big Ten Championships. The 72-hole tournament gets underway at 8 a.m. CT Friday morning with the opening 36 holes, with 18 holes scheduled for both Saturday and Sunday.
Northwestern, ranked 36th in the latest Golfweek Sagarin rankings, looks to build off the momentum it gained after a third-place finish at last weekend's Lady Buckeye Invitational. The Wildcats have placed among the top-10 in seven of their 10 events thus far, including four top-five finishes.
Freshman Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) looks to continue her impressive rookie season in Evanston as she leads the Wildcats with a 75.13 scoring average to go along with seven top-20 finishes. The sophomore tandem of Alexandra Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) and Kylie Fuller (Temecula, Calif./Chapparal) have also played a key role in Northwestern's success, ranking second and third on the team with a 76.20 and a 76.43 scoring average respectively.
Junior Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy), who is coming off a career-best third-place finish at last weekend's Lady Buckeye, has been the Wildcats' top finisher at the last two Big Ten Championships. Lindenschmidt, who notched the first top-10 finish of her career at last season's Big Tens in West Lafayette, Ind., has posted a 77.24 average in seven events this year.
The University Ridge Golf Course in Madison will serve as the host venue for this weekend's Championships, a par-72 course measuring 6,224 yards. All 11 Big Ten institutions will be competing, led by eighth-ranked Purdue, 13th-ranked Michigan State and 19th-ranked Ohio State. The Wildcats are the fourth-highest rated team among the field, followed by Indiana (No. 55), Minnesota (No. 57), Michigan (No. 63), Wisconsin (No. 64), Illinois (No. 73), Iowa (No. 127) and Penn State (No. 135).
The 72-hole tournament gets underway at 8 a.m. CT Friday morning, with round two getting underway immediately afterwards.
