EVANSTON, Ill. – No. 30 Northwestern heads to Columbus, Ohio, to play in the 33rd annual Lady Buckeye Invitational for its final regular-season tournament before the 2013 Big Ten Championships. The Wildcats are one of 12 teams, including nine conference squads, to participate in the Lady Buckeye that runs Saturday-Sunday on the Scarlet Course at the Ohio State University Golf Club.
The Lady Buckeye will be a true test for the 2013 Big Ten Championships with the number of conference squads competing and the 6-count-4 format. The six Wildcats playing at this year’s event include senior Lauren Weaver, junior Devon Brown, sophomore Hana Lee and a trio of freshmen, Kaitlin Park, Suchaya Tangkamolprasert and Elizabeth Szokol.
Northwestern has been idle from competition since finishing sixth at the SDSU Farms Invitational on April 2. Kaitlin Park led the Wildcats, tying for eighth, to record her third top-10 finish of the season. She was one of two ’Cats to finish in the top 15 as Hana Lee continued her stellar sophomore campaign tying for 12th. Lee has posted four top-10 finishes and five top-20 placements so far this year while posting a team-best 73.45 scoring average.
Last year at the Lady Buckeye Invitational, Lauren Weaver led the Northwestern squad with her 11th-place finish. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native recorded just the fourth hole-in-one in program history during the second round as she aced the par-3, 146-yard eighth hole. Weaver was one of three Wildcats to finish in the top 20 as the team finished sixth in the 11-team field.
