EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern commences the spring portion of its 2009-10 schedule heading to Puerto Rico for the 2010 Lady Puerto Rico Classic. Hosted by Purdue, the 54-hole tournament will be held at the Coco Beach Resort in Rio Grande, P.R., getting underway Sunday, Feb. 7.

This marks the second year the Wildcats will compete in the Lady Puerto Rico as Northwestern finished ninth in 2009. Junior Innapha Tantanavivat (Bangkok, Thailand/David Leadbetter Academy) was the top finisher for the 'Cats in last year's event, finishing tied for 18th, one of her four top-20 finishes last season.

Northwestern, ranked 40th nationally, will face another challenging field comprised of 10 top-50 schools, including three ranked among the top 10. The host Boilermakers (No. 4) are the tournament's reigning champions, with Alabama (No. 9) and Georgia (No. 10) looking to factor into the mix. Oklahoma State (No. 22), Florida State (No. 26), Kent State (No. 30), Iowa State (No. 44), Texas Tech (No. 49) and Wisconsin (No. 50) join the Wildcats in the top-50 with Indiana (No. 53), Baylor (No. 59), Oklahoma (No. 72), Michigan (No. 75), Penn State (No. 115) and SMU (No. 131) rounding out the 16-team field.

The Wildcats look to carry the momentum gained from a successful fall season into the spring after posting three top-four finishes and placing in the top-10 in four of their five events. Individually, freshman Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) continues to be impressive, leading the team in scoring average at 73.73 while posting a pair of top-10 finishes. Sophomore Alexandra Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) also had a strong showing in the fall, ranking second on the team with a 75.00 scoring average and three top-20 finishes.

Play gets underway at 6:10 a.m. CT Sunday and Monday mornings with a shotgun start. Teams will play 18-holes each day, with the final round getting underway at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday morning. Live scoring of the event will NOT be available, so updates will be posted at NUsports.com as they become available.
