EVANSTON, Ill. – Golfweek is previewing the spring season for each conference and the publication recently checked in on the Big Ten. Northwestern, who is coming off a strong fall season, is the highest-ranked team in the Big Ten, coming in at No. 20 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.

Additionally, Northwestern is listed as Golfweek’s “Top of the class” in its 5 Things You Need To Know.

Northwestern had three top-five finishes in the four fall events, including fourth-place showings at the Mary Fossum Invitational and Dick McGuire Invitational. Sophomore Kaitlin Park, who was the 2013 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, picked up right where she left off a year ago and led the team with a 73.08 scoring average and top 20 finishes in all four fall tournaments.

Returning First-Team All-Big Ten honoree, junior Hana Lee, also had a sub-74 average at 73.92 in the fall. Another returnee, sophomore Suchaya Tangkamolprasert, was close behind with a 74.25 average. She recorded three top-20 finishes, as she led the Wildcats with a ninth-place finish at their home tournament, the Windy City Collegiate Classic.

No. 20 Northwestern is one of two Big Ten teams entering the spring in the top 25 as Michigan State comes in at No. 24. Last year, The Wildcats won the 2013 Big Ten Championships, sharing the crown with Purdue, marking the first conference title for Northwestern. Head coach Emily Fletcher was crowned the 2013 Big Ten Coach of the Year by her peers.
