EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern head coach Emily Fletcher announced today the addition of Minjia Luo (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines H.S.) to her team. Luo will join the Wildcats for the 2013-14 season.

“I am ecstatic to have Minjia joining our Wildcat Golf Program next fall,” Fletcher said. “She is an accomplished competitor and I am confident she will make significant contributions to our program. Minjia will lead us on the course and in the classroom.”

Luo is the reigning 2012 CIF State Champion and is also coming off a strong summer in which she qualified for both the U.S. Women’s Amateur and the U.S. Girl’s Junior Amateur. Most recently, Luo posted a top-10 finish at the Arizona Silver Belle Championship with rounds of 77-72-71.

Luo is the second member of Fletcher’s recruiting class, along with Kacie Komoto (Honolulu, Hawaii/Punahou).

The spring season for the NU women’s golf team is just around the corner as the Wildcats begin competition at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Mar, P.R. The three-day tournament runs from Feb. 10-12 and is one of four spring events that will prepare the Wildcats for the 2013 Big Ten Championships (April 26-28; French Lick, Ind.).
