    Komoto Leads the 'Cats at Day One of Stanford Intercollegiate

    NU Result After Round One: 6th/16 teams Results 

    STANFORD, Calif. -- Northwestern began competition at its final event of the fall season, playing at the Stanford Intercollegiate, Hosted by Condoleezza Rice. After the first 18 holes, the Wildcats are in sixth place in the highly-competitive field that includes a number of top-ranked squads.

    "We got off to a solid start today and just  kept it going," Northwestern head coach Emily Fletcher said. "Kacie played particularly well today, she gave herself a lot of opportunities. I was really proud of our effort today; our girls fought hard and we're looking forward to tomorrow's second round."

    The Wildcats, who come in at No. 20 in the latest rankings carded a 2-over 286 in the first round and finished two strokes ahead of top-ranked UCLA, who posted a 4-over 288 Friday. NU is a stroke behind No. 12 Pepperdine (285, +1) and two strokes behind No. 9 Stanford and No. 33 Oregon who are tied for third at 1-under 283. USC, who is ranked No. 2 in the country, leads the 16-team field at 8-under 276 while No. 19 Washington is in second at 2-under 282.

    Freshman Kacie Komoto had an outstanding start to the tournament as she is tied for fourth to lead the Wildcats. She recorded a career-best score of 2-under 69 thanks to five birdies. Beginning on hole No. 10, Komoto had a stellar start with four-straight pars and then hit back-to-back birdies on holes 14 and 15. She posted two more pars and a birdie on 18 to finish the back nine at 3-under. It was the first round in the 60’s for the Honolulu native as her previous low round was a 71, scored twice so far this season.

    Sophomore Kaitlin Park is two strokes behind Komoto at an even-71 and is tied for 16th. She also had a good start to the round, finishing the back nine at 1-under with a birdie and eight pars.

    Junior Hana Lee is also in the top 25 after the first 18 holes, carding a 1-over 72 to tie for 22nd.
