    Second Round Wraps Up at Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championships

    KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Sophomore Hana Lee continues to lead Northwestern and is close to the top of the leaderboard following the conclusion of the second round at the Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championships in Knoxville, Tenn.
    After posting a career-low score of 3-under 69 on Friday, Lee is now tied for third. She scored a 1-over 73 on Saturday and is currently 2-under for the tournament at 142. Lee, and the NU starting five, began the second round on hole No. 1 and finished the front nine at 1-under after birdies on holes four, five and nine and bogeys on three and eight. She had some trouble on the 10th hole with a double-bogey but finished the round with two pars and two birdies to go 2-over for the back nine.
    Lee is in a three-way tie for third place with Penn State’s Emily Ransone and Purdue’s Paula Reto. She is four strokes behind tournament leader Laura Wearn of Furman (6-under 138) and Tennessee’s Eric Popson has a one-stroke advantage on Lee at 3-under 141.
    Another NU sophomore posted the best score of the day for the Wildcats as Nicole Zhang vaulted from a tie for 43rd into the top 20 after soring a 1-under 71 Saturday. Zhang was even on the front nine with two birdies and two bogeys and posted four birdies on the back nine to offset her three bogeys and finish 1-under. Zhang has a two-round total of 3-over 147 to tie for 18th.
    Freshman Kaitlin Park has been consistent in the first two rounds, scoring a 2-over 74 each day. After two birdies on Friday, Park added three more on Saturday and is now tied for 21st at 4-over 148.
    Senior Lauren Weaver and junior Devon Brown rounded out the NU starting five. Weaver is currently 9-over through 36 holes (75-78=153) to tie for 49th while Brown is 14-over (79-79=158) and tied for 61st.
    Senior Anne Ormson is playing as an individual and took four strokes off her first-round score, finishing Saturday with a 7-over 79. Ormson has a 19-over 163 and tied for 74th.
    As a team, NU moved up a spot in the standings and is currently in sole possession of fifth place at 14-over 520 (294-296). The Wildcats are five strokes behind fourth-place Texas A&M (585) and six strokes off of third-place Purdue (584). Penn State leads the field at 4-over 580 while host Tennessee trails by one stroke at 5-over 581.
    The third and final round of the Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championships are tomorrow at the Holston Hills Country Club. NU tees off from the first hole at 8:50 a.m. CT with Texas A&M and UTSA.
