    KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – After two top-10 finishes to start the season, sophomore Hana Lee has her eyes set on another strong showing as she currently sits all alone in first place at the conclusion of the opening round at the Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championships. Played on the par-72, 6,447-yard Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn., Lee posted a career-low 18-hole score of 69 (3-under) on Friday.
     
    The Hacienda Heights, Calif., native began the day on the 10th hole and finished the back nine even with a bogey on 15 and a birdie on 18. She then began to separate herself from the field on the front nine, posting birdies on the second, fourth, fifth, seventh and ninth holes and bogeyed No. 8 to go 3-under on the front nine. Her score of 69 is two strokes better than her previous career low of 71 set twice this season.
     
    Lee has a one-stroke lead on three others that scored a 2-under 70 on the first day of competition.
     
    It’s a tight competition in the team race as just three strokes separate first-place Penn State (3-over 291) from Northwestern who is tied with Florida State for sixth at 6-over 294.
     
    Lee is one of six Wildcats competing in Knoxville. Freshman Kaitlin Park made her second career start and finished the first round at 2-over 74 to tie for 22nd. Senior Lauren Weaver is a stroke behind Park at 3-over 75 and is tied for 31st.
     
    Sophomore Nicole Zhang and junior Devon Brown round out the NU starting five while senior Anne Ormson played as an individual. Zhang is one shot behind Weaver at 4-over 76 (tied for 43rd) while Brown scored a 7-over 79 (tied for 63rd). Ormson finished day one in a tie for 83rd at 12-over 84.
     
    The second round of the Mercedes Benz Collegiate Championships begins tomorrow at 8 a.m. CT. The Wildcats are one of the first teams to tee off on hole No. 1 and they are paired with Mississippi State (8th place) and Iowa State (9th place). The three-day tournament wraps up Sunday.
