    ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Northwestern played its first two rounds of the 2012-13 season Monday at the Branch Law Firm Dick McGuire Invitational played on the par-73, 6,192-yard UNM Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M. After 36 holes, the Wildcats are in fifth place out of 17 teams with a 10-over 594 (298-296). Two returning Wildcats and one newcomer are in the top 20 as senior Lauren Weaver is currently tied for fourth, sophomore Hana Lee is in a tie for 17th and freshman Kaitlin Park is also tied for 17th, playing as an individual in her NU debut.

    Weaver has a two-round total of 2-under 144 and is four strokes off the individual leader, Jennifer Coleman of Colorado (6-under 140). Weaver posted three birdies in the first round to off-set three bogeys and finish at an even 73. In the second round, she finished posted an additional four birdies to finish at 2-under 71.

    Lee jumped from a tie for 36th after the first round into the top 20 to end the day. In the first round, she scored a 76 but then shaved off four strokes, finishing the second 18 at 1-under 72 (2-over 148). Lee had a consistent second round with one bogey and birdies on holes eight and 16.

    Three NU newcomers made their debut Monday. Park played as an individual, and finished at an even 73 in the first round with birdies on the eighth, 10th, 13th and 18th holes. She then added three more birdies in the second round but finished 2-over for a 36-hole total of 2-over 148. Park is currently tied with Lee at 17th.



    Sophomore Nicole Zhang and freshman Suchaya Tangkamolprasert also made their Wildcat debut and are tied for 30th and 49th, respectively. Zhang had a strong start, posting a 1-under 72 in the first 18 holes. Beginning with a bogey on the fourth hole, Zhang bounced back nicely with four birdies and was 3-under heading into her final hole. Encountering some trouble on the par-3, 150-yard third hole, Zhang finished with a double-bogey but still finished the round under par. She has a two-round score of 150 (+4).

    Tangkamolprasert had four birdies in her first day of competition. She posted a 77 in each round, for an 8-over 154.

    Junior Devon Brown rounded out the NU starters and is tied with Tangkamolprasert for 49th. Brown began at 5-over 78 and improved two strokes in the second round at 3-over 76 for a two-round total of 154 (+8).

    Northwestern wraps up competition at the season-opening Branch Law Firm Dick McGuire Invite with the final 18 holes tomorrow morning.
