EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Northwestern sits in fourth place following the opening two rounds of the 2009 Mary Fossum Invitational at Forest Akers Golf Course. The Wildcats shoot a 15-over 591 through the opening 36 holes hold a six-stroke lead over fifth-place James Madison.

Consistency was the name of the game for NU in its opening tournament, as all five Wildcats shot either a 1-over 73 or 2-over 74 in round two. Not a single NU golfer had a round in the 80s through the first day.

Freshman Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) was impressive in her first collegiate tournament, shooting a pair of 1-over 73s on the day to sit tied for ninth place at 2-over 146. She was one stroke better than junior Innapha Tantanavivat (Bangkok, Thailand/David Leadbetter Academy), who sits in 12th place after the first 36 holes. Sophomore Alexandra Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale) sits in a 17th-place tie after a 4-over 148.

Junior Rebecca Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale) and sophomore Kylie Fuller (Temecula, Calif./Chapparal) also had big days for head coach Emily Fletcher's squad, shooting a 6-over 150 and a 9-over 153 respectively.

The Big Ten has dominated the tournament thus far, with ninth-ranked Purdue making a late charge to finish the opening two rounds at 3-over 579. The Boilermakers hold a three stroke advantage on host Michigan State (6-over 582) and lead third-place Indiana (11-over 587) by nine strokes.

Northwestern enters the final round with a six-stroke lead over fifth-place James Madison, with Eastern Michigan, Kentucky, Minnesota, Notre Dame and Toledo rounding out the top-10.
