NCAA Round 3 Results
ATHENS, Ga. – Northwestern completed the remainder of the second round and third round of the 2013 NCAA Championships Thursday at the University of Georgia Golf Course. After inclement weather forced an early end to Wednesday’s second round, freshman Suchaya Tangkamolprasert (Bangkok, Thailand/Bromsgrove International) finished her final hole of the round early Thursday morning and the ’Cats teed off the third round about an hour later.
A new face stepped up for the Wildcats on Thursday as freshman Elizabeth Szokol (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) had the best score of the day for the group of five, carding a 2-under 70. Szokol has improved her score each day at NCAA’s starting at 10-over, going 6-over on Wednesday and then carded her third round of the season under par Thursday at 2-under. Beginning on the first hole, she was 2-under through the front nine with birdies on three and six. She continued to stay 2-under until encountering three straight bogeys on 13, 14 and 15 but Szokol came back strong, finishing the round with three consecutive birdies.
Tangkamolprasert continues to lead NU in the individual standings and had the second-best round of the day for NU at 4-over 76. She is tied for 24th.
Sophomore Hana Lee (Hacienda Heights, Calif./Wilson) and senior Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) each finished the third round at 5-over 77 while freshman Kaitlin Park (Tustin, Calif./Beckman) went 6-over on Thursday.
