    STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Northwestern saved the best for last on Saturday with a number of highlights in the third and final round of the 2012 NCAA East Regional. Sophomore Devon Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) and senior Alex Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) scored eagles, three Wildcats had their best round of the tournament and NU had its best round as a team, scoring a 15-over 303 in the final 18 at the Penn State Blue Course.
     
    Freshman Brittany Mai (Poway, Calif./Poway) had lowest score out of the five Wildcat competitors, shooting a 1-over 73 on Saturday but Brown had the best finish of the group. On her very last hole of the tournament, Brown scored an eagle on the the par-5, 446-yard 18th hole, finishing in just three strokes. With the eagle, Brown also posted her best round of the three-day regional, scoring a 2-over 74, one stroke better than her first and second round scores of 75. She had a nearly perfect back nine Saturday, finishing on par from No. 10-No. 16, bogeyed No. 17 and finished with the eagle. Brown led the Wildcats in the individual standings, tying for 41st, shooting an 8-over 224.

    Lederhausen was playing in her final round for Northwestern Saturday and ended her collegiate career on a positive note with an eagle. Her eagle came on the par-4, 318-yard 11th hole. Lederhausen played the 11th hole well throughout the three-day tournament, scoring pars in the first and second rounds and she was the only player to score an eagle on No. 11 all tournament. She finished the third round with a 6-over 78.
     
    Mai had a spectacular beginning of the third round, scoring a birdie on her first hole, hole No. 1, and again on No. 6. She was on par for the other seven holes, finishing the front nine at 2-under. Mai added six more pars on the back nine to finish at 1-over 73, improving on her second-round score by seven strokes. Mai wrapped up her first NCAA tournament in a tie for 76th at 230 (+14)
     
    Junior Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) also had her best round of the tournament, shooting a 6-over 78. Freshman Hana Lee (Hacienda Heights, Calif./Wilson) rounded out the NU competitors, scoring a 9-over 81 Saturday. A complete list of NU scores can be found below.
     
    As a team, Northwestern finished 18th, moving up two spots from 20th place after the second round. NU had a three-round total of 916 (+52), three strokes ahead of 19th-place Chattanooga. South Carolina led for the whole tournament, scoring a 9-over 873 to win the regional team title. The Gamecocks had a five-stroke advantage on Texas A&M and Texas who tied for second. Texas A&M’s Katerina Ruzickova won medalist honors, shooting a 3-under 213 (67-73-73).
     
    The top-eight teams and top two individuals, Kelsey Vines (Oklahoma State) and Margarita Ramos (Arizona), advance to the 2012 NCAA Championships in Franklin, Tenn.
