    FRENCH LICK, Ind. – After 36 holes at the 2013 Big Ten Championships, Northwestern is still on top of the leaderboard. The 29th-ranked Wildcats are 6-over 582 through two rounds and have a five-stroke lead on No. 15 Purdue who sits in second at 11-over 587. NU had the second-best round of the day on Saturday out of the 12-team field, shooting a 7-over 295 for its 14th sub-300 round of the season. The Boilermakers posted a 6-over 294 Saturday to remain in second (587, +11). No. 24 Michigan State picked up some ground and moved into third place after shooting a 9-over 297 Saturday, but is 18 strokes behind NU (600, +24).
    It is a tight race in the individual standings as NU freshman Kaitlin Park (Tustin, Calif./Beckman) is just two strokes behind the tournament leader, Purdue’s Paula Reto. The duo entered Saturday in a tie for second and Park is all alone in second in the individual standings at 1-under 143 while Retro leads with a 3-under 141. On Saturday, Park began strong, scoring four birdies, four pars and a bogey to go 3-under on the front nine. She then finished at an even 72 for the round, her sixth round of par or better on the season.
    Four other Wildcats are inside the top 10, helping NU maintain its lead in the team race. Junior Devon Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) remained steady on Saturday, matching her Friday score of 2-over 74. She had four birdies in the second round and is 4-over 148 through two rounds to tie for seventh. After leading the individual standings Friday with a 4-under 68, sophomore Hana Lee is also tied for seventh with Brown at 4-over 148.
    A pair of Wildcat freshmen are currently tied for 10th at 5-over 149. Suchaya Tangkamolprasert (Bangkok, Thailand/Bromsgrove International) shaved a stroke off of her first-round score, shooting a 2-over 74 Saturday. She also started strong with two birdies to go 2-under on the front nine before finishing 2-over for the round. Fellow freshman Elizabeth Szokol (Winnetka, Ill./New Trier) had four birdies on Saturday and went 3-over 75 to match Tangkamolprasert’s 36-hole score of 149.
    Senior Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) had four birdies Saturday and carded a 5-over 77, her same score as Friday, to move up two spots into a tie for 27th.
    It is shaping up to be an exciting finish at the 2013 Big Ten Championships with the third and final round taking place Sunday at The Donald Ross Course in French Lick, Ind.. Competition begins at 7 a.m. CT.
