    'Cats in Close Race at Silverado Showdown

    NAPA, Calif. -- Northwestern played two rounds at the Silverado Showdown in Napa, Calif., on Monday and is in the midst of a tight team race with just four strokes separating the Wildcats from the top spot. NU is in fourth in the competitive 15-team field after 36 holes with a 9-over 585 (291-294), just four strokes behind tournament leaders, 11th-ranked Washington (581, +5).

    Northwestern, who is ranked No. 20 in the latest Golfstat rankings, is two strokes behind third-place Oregon State and three behind top-ranked USC, who sits in second after 36 holes. NU is five strokes in front of ninth-ranked Arizona.

    Four of the five Wildcats competing in Napa are in the top 30 after day one of competition with junior Hana Lee and sophomore Kaitlin Park leading the way in a tie for 12th as both are 1-over through 36 holes. Lee had the best round of the day for the Wildcats, carding a 1-under 71 during the first round while Park had a 72 in the first round.

    Freshman Kacie Komoto is just three strokes behind the Wildcat duo at 4-over 148 to tie for 22nd with a pair of 74's on the day. Sophomore Elizabeth Szokol is a stroke behind Komoto at 5-over 149 (74-75). Sophomore Suchaya Tangkamolprasert is tied for 45th and had an impressive second round, carding a 1-over 73 to cut seven strokes off her first-round score.

    The third and final round of the Silverado Showdown begins Tuesday morning with tee times at 8:30 a.m. local time.
