HALF MOON BAY, Calif. -- It was a tale of two rounds Monday for Northwestern at the inaugural Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, taking place at the scenic Half Moon Bay Golf Links Ocean Course in northern California.

The Wildcats, ranked 39th in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin ratings, brought their "A" game in the opening round, shooting a tourney-best 5-over 293. In addition to holding the lead in the team race, Northwestern's Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) fired a 3-under 69 to lead the 69-player field by a pair of strokes. Weaver's opening round, which was the best round of the tourney by any player and her third under-70 round of the year, consisted of five birdies, including two on her final three holes which lifted her to her two-stroke lead. Weaver set a school-record with a 66 earlier this season.

In Monday's second round, however -- with the coastal winds blowing a bit stronger -- every Wildcat score increased by a minimum of four strokes, with three players carding scores seven strokes higher than their marks for the first 18 holes. Weaver was one of those three players who added seven strokes to her second round and as a result fell into second place, one stroke off the lead. Weaver, who was unable to card a birdie in the second round, is 1-over (69-76=145) for the tournament.

In the team standings, the Wildcats fell back to seventh place and are now 17 strokes behind 27th-ranked Texas A&M, which went 10-over in both first and second rounds. 35th-ranked Oregon, a tourney co-host, and Long Beach State are tied for second, five strokes back of the Aggies.

Senior Rebecca Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central), who fired a 2-over 74 in the opening round, is in a 31st-place tie with an 11-over 155 (74-81). She carded three birdies to go along with five bogeys in Monday's first round. Northwestern's other senior, Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy), who is playing the best golf of her senior season, is 12-over (75-81=156) and tied for 38th place.

Junior Alex Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) is tied for 43rd at 13-over (75-82=157) and freshman Devon Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) is tied for 57th place with a 16-over 160 (78-82).

The final round begins at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. Live scoring for the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate is available at
