GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Windy and cold weather in Greensboro, N.C., caused tough conditions during Sunday’s third and final round of the Bryan National Collegiate. The day began with a light sleet and winds near 20 mph with gusts in the 30-40 mph range. Despite the conditions, Northwestern held steady in the final round, finishing 14th.
Junior Hana Lee made a jump in the individual standings during the final round as she tied for 27th to lead the Wildcats. She began the day tied for 32nd and moved up five spots to enter the top 30. Lee carded a 14-over 230 (75-75-80) to pace Northwestern.
Sophomore Suchaya Tangkamolprasert had the best round of the day for the Wildcats, carding a 3-over 75. An eagle on the par-4, 376-yard 17th hole highlighted her day as she finished tied for 50th at 17-over 233 (80-78-75).
Sophomore Kaitlin Park tied for 42nd, just two strokes behind Lee and a stroke ahead of Tangkamolprasert at 16-over 232 (73-74-85). Freshman Kacie Komoto and sophomore Elizabeth Szokol rounded out the Northwestern competitors as they scored 236 and 238, respectively.
NU finished 14th in the highly-competitive field with 13 top-40 squads. The Wildcats finished two strokes behind 13th-place NC State and six behind 12th place North Carolina. Duke won the Bryan National Collegiate with an 18-over 882. With Sunday’s conditions, none of the 18 teams in the field carded a sub-300 round.
The Wildcats are back in action next weekend, playing at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic. Competition runs from Friday, April 4-Sunday, April 6 in Athens, Ga.
