Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational Day One Results
AUSTIN, Texas -- Northwestern put together an opening round score of 13-over 301 and currently sits in a tie for seventh-place overall after 18 holes at the 2010 Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational. The Wildcats enter day two tied with Arizona, but are only six shots back of first-place UCLA.
The Wildcats were paced by junior Kelsey Lindenschmidt (West Chester, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) and sophomore Kylie Fuller (Temecula, Calif./Chapparal) as the duo both put together a 2-over 74 through the opening round and are currently tied for 12th place overall. Freshman Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) is not far off the pace as she concluded her opening round with a 3-over 75.
Freshman Mei Liu (Austin, Texas/Lake Travis) has gotten off to a good start in her collegiate debut, which fittingly is taking place in her hometown. Liu shot a 6-over 78 through the opening 18 holes, leading sophomore teammate Alexandra Lederhausen (Hinsdale, Ill./Central) by one stroke.
Competing against one of the toughest fields of the season, Northwestern remains in a prime position to make a run at the top-five. The Wildcats trail sixth-place Vanderbilt (12-over 300) by one stroke, and are just two back of both Oregon and Texas A&M (11-over 299) in fourth place. UCLA (7-over 295) hold a slim one-stroke edge on the host Longhorns (8-over 296) and are three shots better than third-place TCU (10-over 298) heading into round two.
Saturday's 18-hole second round gets underway at 8:15 a.m. with the Wildcats teaming up with both Arizona and Stanford to make up the day's first threesomes. Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com
