CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- After scoring the low round of the day Wednesday, Northwestern moved up to the top spot at the 2014 Hurricane Invitational to finish first in the 17-team field. The Wildcats, who entered the final round in second place, fired a 6-over 290 on Wednesday to surpass Iowa State for the tournament title.

It was a close race at the top as NU finished first with a 12-over 864 (290-284-290), just a stroke ahead of second-place Iowa State (285-286-294=865, +13). This is the second tournament title for Northwestern under head coach Emily Fletcher as the Wildcats also captured the 2013 Big Ten Championship.

"It was a well-earned and much deserved win for this team," Fletcher said. "I am so proud of how they kept fighting. Iowa State is a great team and it is special to come out on top this time. Hana Lee was solid all week. I'm very excited for her top-five finish and know it will give her a bump in her confidence. Kacie Komoto's play the last two days was outstanding. She made some clutch up and downs today to keep her momentum going. Kaitlin Park made two huge birdies coming down the stretch too. it was a good team effort."

A trio of Wildcats placed in the top 15 while all five NU starters finished inside the top 40. Junior Hana Lee tied for fifth to lead the Wildcats, scoring a 1-over 214. She had her best round of the tournament, carding a 1-under 70 on Wednesday thanks to four birdies and 11 pars.

Freshman Kacie Komoto was a stroke behind Lee at 2-over 215. After scoring a 69 on Tuesday, Komoto had another round under par, carding a 1-under 70 on Wednesday for the first top-10 showing of her young Wildcat career.

Sophomore Kaitlin Park finished inside the top 15, tying for 13th with a 4-over 217 (73-69-75). Fellow sophomore Elizabeth Szokol carded an 8-over 221 to tie for 26th while sophomore Suchaya Tangkamolprasert tied for 39th at 12-over 225 (73-75-77).

Senior Devon Brown competed as an individual for the Wildcats and scored a 4-over 75 on Wednesday to finish at 16-over 229 to tie for 55th.
