RIO VERDE, Ariz. -- Northwestern remains on top at the Rio Verde Collegiate Invitational after firing an 11-over 295 on Friday on the par-71 White Wing Golf Course. The Wildcats' strong day stretched their team lead from five to 10 strokes.

Michigan, the next highest ranked team behind the 'Cats in the 17-team tourney, moved into second place. Texas Tech is in third place, 16 strokes back of the Wildcats.

Sophomore Brittany Johnston (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) led the 'Cats second-round charge, shooting a career-best 2-under 69 to move into second place, one stroke behind the Wolverines' Amy Schmucker, who also shot a 69 on Tuesday. She turned in the shot of the day, holing out from 150 yards out with a five iron on the 389-yard par-4 fifth hole. She used that, plus four birdies, for her 2-under 69. Johnston is 3-over (76-69=145) for the tournament.

Right behind Johnston is teammate Jennifer Hong (Windermere, Fla./The First Academy), who is in fourth place with a 7-over 149 (75-74). She shot a 3-over 74 on Friday.

The third Northwestern player in the top-10 is junior Alice Kim (Los Angeles, Calif./Brentwood), last week's Big Ten Golfer of the Week. Kim is sitting in a sixth-place tie at 9-over (75-76=151). Junior Heather Scholten (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) is 22nd at 12-over (78-76=154).

Sophomore Katie Trachok (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) and junior Kelly Robb (Concord, Mass./Middlesex) are 14-over and 16-over, respectively, and in 28th and 39th place.
