PARRISH, Fla. – Northwestern wrapped up the first two rounds of the 12th Annual Central District Invitational Monday at the River Wilderness Golf Club in Parrish, Fla. The ’Cats finished day one of competition in 12th with a 41-over 617. NU improved 11 strokes in Monday afternoon’s second round, shooting a 15-over 303 after opening the day at 314.
Freshman Hana Lee (Hacienda Heights, Calif./Wilson) led the way for Northwestern after the first day as she is tied for 21st with three other golfers. Lee opened the tournament shooting a 2-over 74 and had a 3-over 75 in the second round for a two-round total of 5-over 149. Lee had six birdies on the day, three in each round, including back-to-back birdies on the third and fourth holes of her second round. In the first 18, Lee bogeyed hole No. 2 but finished the round with eight-straight holes of on-par or birdies (birdied holes six and nine).
Junior Lauren Weaver (Scottsdale, Ariz./Cactus Shadows) is tied for 50th with an 11-over 155. Weaver opened with a 5-over 77 and shot a 6-over 78 in the second round.
Sophomore Devon Brown (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) is two strokes behind Weaver with a 13-over 157 and tied for 58th. She opened with a 7-over 79 and improved a stroke in the second round, finishing at 6-over 78.
Senior Alex Lederhausen
(Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central) had the best second round of any NU golfer, shooting a 2-over 74. She shot a 10-over 84 in the first, but significantly improved her score in the second round. After day one, Lederhausen has a 14-over 158 and is tied for 63rd.
Freshman Brittany May (Poway, Calif./Poway) rounded out the five NU competitors and also had a better second round than the first. Like Lederhausen, she opened at 10-over 84 but shot a 4-over 76 in the second round. Mai is tied for 67th, scoring a 16-over 160 after day one of competition.
Oklahoma leads the 15-team tournament after the first two rounds with an 8-over 584 (291-293). TCU is two strokes behind (586) for second while Vanderbilt is one behind TCU (587) in third. Oklahoma’s Chirapat Jao-Javanil leads the individual race finishing with a 6-under 138 (68-70) after day one.
The third and final round of the Central District Invitational takes place tomorrow.
